We talked a lot about the two proteins, collagen, and elastin, which are essential for keeping your skin smooth and wrinkle-free. Unfortunately, because of natural aging and factors like sun and toxin exposure, both break down over time, leading to wrinkled, saggy, and loose skin.
Luckily there are plenty of things you can do to prevent rapid skin aging, and some of the most effective skin tightening treatments are easy, and you can do them at home. If you are ready to find out what you can do to keep your skin healthy without too much hassle or investment, continue reading this article. It’s a fun read, and your skin will thank you!
Coconut and Olive Oil
Coconut and olive oil are ingredients most of us have at home, but usually, we use them for cooking. These oils, however, have spectacular benefits for our skin. Coconut oil, for instance, is an exceptional antioxidant that works wonders in eliminating free radicals known for being so damaging for your skin. It is also a fantastic moisturizer, keeping your skin hydrated and preventing sagging. Just massage a teaspoon of coconut oil into your skin before bed, leaving it on overnight. You will love looking in the mirror the next day!
Another superb antioxidant, which is also filled with vitamin E, is olive oil. Ancient Egyptians were well aware of its benefits. So they use it to protect their skin from the sun, but also as a cleanser and moisturizer. You can massage olive oil into your face, neck, and chest every evening after your shower. It is also a fantastic replacement for body lotion.
Retinoids
In a recent article, we talked about retinol and how it is a great choice to prevent wrinkles and slow down your body’s aging process. Yes, not only does retinol smoothen the already existent lines, but it also helps to prevent and minimize new ones.
You can either talk to a dermatologist and receive a personalized treatment or give over-the-counter retinol a try. Keep in mind that specialists like Dr. Mona Gohara recommend starting with the gentlest formula before moving up to a higher strength after one year, as they can be irritating to unaccustomed skin.
Face Yoga & Massages
If you haven’t tried face yoga yet, you definitely missed out on improving muscle tone and stimulating circulation while enjoying a relaxing routine that helps oxygen and nutrients to reach the cells giving you a glowing, healthier complexion.
There are plenty of studies showing impressive results but, if you want face yoga to be successful, you should consider at least six 20-minute sessions every week, with noticeable results in only two weeks.
Facial massage is also a great way to keep your skin beautiful, young, and glowing. Whether you use olive and coconut oil or prefer a flat gua sha, a tool we recently discussed, you should add facial massages to your daily routine.
They promote blood circulation, reduce fine lines, puffiness, and help you reduce tension in the face. We can’t think of a better way to end a stressful day than with a facial massage. Unless you want to have complete body kneading!
Homemade Masks
Homemade masks are fast, easy, inexpensive, and they bring so many benefits to your skin that you can’t ignore them, especially since most of the ingredients are already available in your kitchen. Yogurt, for instance, contains lactic acid, which works on shrinking your pores, leading to tighter, smoother skin.
A fantastic mask will only need 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt and 2 drops of lime juice mixed together and massaged into your skin for 10 minutes. Leave this mask for 5 more minutes, rinsing it off with warm water. Do this twice a week, and you will notice a big difference!
And let’s not forget about aloe vera, a natural moisturizer, which contains malic acid, an ingredient known for improving skin elasticity. Just spread aloe vera gel on your face, neck, and chest, leaving for 15 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water.
Or, mix 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise to make a miraculous mask. Apply it on your face and let it work its wonders for 15 minutes before rinsing it off. Amazing!
Smoothing Pads and Patches
Smoothing Pads and Patches are also known for being an effective treatment for sagging skin. They are comfortable and can be used during the day or while you sleep. What they actually do is improve irregular collagen structure and increase the blood flow, offering you an enhanced skin tone, as well as preventing new wrinkles formation.
Just apply these “magical helpers” whenever you want and let them flatten out wrinkles and plump up depleted skin. Oh, your face, neck, and chest will thank you!
